Conversation Starters

To get started, below is a conversation starter guide that you can leverage to initiate discussions with your advisees. These discussions should include generating awareness and interest in your institution’s participation in course sharing, engaging with students who are already participating in course sharing, and celebrating the accomplishments of those who have successfully completed a course taken through Acadeum on their way to graduation.

We've found that it's most beneficial for student success to regularly communicate with your students about course sharing to ensure students are aware of their options and are successful if they do choose to take an online course through course sharing.

 

Generating Awareness

 

Goal: To introduce students to course sharing and identify ways it can help them progress toward their degree.

  • You can use course sharing to help you:

    • Improve your GPA

    • Maintain full-time status

    • Have a more flexible schedule

    • Stay on track for graduation

    • Get back in sequence toward your degree progress

  • Online courses are great when:

    • You need more flexibility in your schedule

    • You aren't able to be on campus

Facilitating Interest

 

Goal: Helping & guiding your students if they have shown interest in taking an course through the Acadeum Course Share network.

  • You mentioned you were interested in taking an online course to [get ahead], here is a link to the Acadeum website.

  • Together, let's look through the courses available to you through course sharing and find one that fits your needs.

  • Let's discuss courses you can take over the [summer or winter] term to help you get ahead on your degree progress or stay in sequence.

 

Engaging with Participants

 

Goal: Support students who are enrolled in a course through Acadeum.

  • How is your course going?

  • Are you comfortable with the pace of the course?

  • Are you having success completing your assignments on time?

  • Are there additional resources that would help you be successful in this course?

  • How can I help you achieve success in this course?
