The best way to make a Teaching Institution’s courses available to the largest number of Home Institutions is to join multiple consortia. In general, Home Institutions approve courses for their students from the inventory of courses within the consortia to which they belong (e.g., the Council of Independent Colleges Online Course Sharing Consortium). Home Institution’s preference for consortium-based courses is based on the fact that these courses can be covered by financial aid, the grades students receive can be used to replace poor grades, the courses can be used under residency requirements, and the courses can help establish full- or part-time status for students.
